چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Echo-planar imaging (EPI) and its variants form the core of many functional and structural imaging studies. Image quality of these scans deteriorates drastically with increasing B0 inhomogeneities. Although post-processing can correct aspects related to image distortion, the only way to prevent signal dropout is by improved shimming. Commonly, higher-order static spherical harmonic (SH) shims are used to address this issue. Further gains have been reported with dynamic SH shimming, wherein the shim settings are optimized on a per-slice basis and updated during imaging in a slice-specific fashion. Recently, even better results were reported when dynamic shim fields were generated by an array of small individual coils placed around the subjects' head. 3 In this study, we demonstrate that this dynamic multi-coil technique (DYNAMITE) leads to less distortion and reduced signal dropout in EPI of the human brain at 7 Tesla, in comparison with those acquired with SH shims.

Dynamic Bo Shimming at 7 Tesla

Introduction Dynamic Shimming is a technique for obtaining optimal Bo field homogeneity over a volume by updating the shim coil and gradient currents for every slice in a multislice acquisition in real time [1, 2]. Dynamic shimming can produce better field homogeneity within each slice than global volume shimming methods. It can therefore reduce signal losses and geometric distortions and can b...

3D MR Imaging with the Dynamic Multi-Coil Technique: DYNAMITE MRI

INTRODUCTION: To date, spatial encoding for MRI is based on linear X, Y and Z field gradients generated by dedicated X, Y and Z wire patterns. The multi-coil (MC) technique enables the generation of a multitude of magnetic field shapes relevant to biomedical MR [1]. The benefits of the Dynamic Multi-Coil Technique (DYNAMITE) for the magnetic field shimming in rodent [2,3] and human [4] brain ha...

Gain of Imaging Fidelity by Employing a Higher Number of Independent Transmit Channels Together with Slice-Selective Radio-Frequency (RF) Shimming at 7T

Dielectric resonance effects and radio-frequency (RF) power deposition have become challenging issues for magnetic resonance imaging at ultrahigh-field (UHF) strengths. The use of transmit (Tx) coil arrays with independently-driven RF sources using a parallel transmission system is a promising method for alleviating the resulting RF inhomogeneities. In this study, the effect on homogeneity and ...

Feasibility of Applying Mb Epi Pcasl for High-resolution Whole Brain Perfusion Imaging at 7t

Target audience: Arterial spin labeling researchers, neuroimaging scientists and clinicians Purpose Ultra high fields, (≥7T), should provide significant advantages for high-resolution whole brain perfusion imaging due to greatly increased blood T1 and signal noise ratio (SNR). However, there exist several challenges: B1 and B0 inhomogeneity, high specific absorption rate (SAR) and shortened T2*...

Left Coronary Artery Imaging at 7T: Initial Results using Multiple B1+ Shimming Algorithms and Targets

INTRODUCTION: Performing right coronary artery imaging at 7T has been shown to improve the signal to noise (SNR) and contrast to noise (CNR) compared to 3T when using a turbo-FLASH (TFL) acquisition with an adiabatic spectrally selective RF pre-pulse (SPAIR) for lipid suppression (1). However, to date, imaging of the left coronary artery (LCA) has not been shown, with the suggested challenge be...
